A few weeks back, I made the trip down to Melbourne for the launch of Royal Enfield’s new Classic 650. Royal Enfield had invited me along to speak about our Project Delta build—a custom Super Meteor 650 we created as part of their Custom World program. While I was there, I had the chance to swing a leg over the freshly released Classic 650 and get a feel for what it’s all about.

The Classic 650 sticks to the ethos that’s made Royal Enfield such a cult favourite. Built for the cruise, it’s got a comfortable upright riding position, plush suspension, and that unmistakable old-school charm. But underneath that vintage styling, there’s a well-mannered modern machine.

Smooth Ride, Strong Torque
The 270-degree parallel twin delivers a healthy amount of torque and a sound that’s just plain satisfying. There’s a smoothness to the ride that suits longer days in the saddle, and the way it holds the road gives you plenty of confidence whether you’re rolling through town or stretching its legs on the open road.

Why the Classic 650 Stands Out
What stood out to me most is the balance Royal Enfield have struck here. Like their other classic-styled models, the 650 manages to look like it’s from another era, while still feeling completely modern where it counts. It's simple. Well-finished. No fluff, just a good honest motorcycle.

It’s not trying to be a performance monster or overtake anything in the tech arms race—this bike is about enjoying the ride. And for a lot of riders, that’s exactly the point.

Would I change anything?
Would I change anything? Not really. It’s the kind of bike I’d happily throw a duffle on and take up the coast. You don’t have to overthink it—you just ride.

No doubt we’ll have our hands on one soon for a custom twist or two. But even off the showroom floor, it’s a bike that earns its spot.
