2017 Wide Wheel Triumph Scrambler

“Make it beasty” was the order of the day on this one. Originally Andrew came to see us for a custom seat with Timeless Auto trim. He arrived at our shop, saw what we were doing on a number of other projects and the job quickly grew.

When our projects start off like this its re-assuring that we’re doing the right thing. A new customer with no knowledge of who we are or what we do see’s the projects in the shop and goes all in. We pride ourselves on building the most creative and high quality customs you can find in Australia and that no compromise approach is starting to pay off for us. Each bike is better than the last, and I want to keep that moving.

The base bake was a liquid cooled 2017 Triumph T100 Black. Completely stock as it rolled into us, but very well kept. The seat job was simple, shorten the subframe, create a simple and tidy lighting design on the rear, fabricate a tail tidy and custom seat pan.

Utilizing our 3 in 1 LED blinkers, and tail tidy kit all that was completed to a high standard with a completely minimal look.

The Next Major step in the modification came by way of a wide wheel kit. Utilising custom triple clamps, and an Incredible wheel set from Canyon Motorcycles. With this installed the custom Triumph Scrambler runs a 150 wide front tyre and a monstrous 180 rear. Now before you jump down my throat about handling, this is a weekender that gets run up and down the coastline. It still corners, it still runs well, it just looks way better doing it.

Adding to the aggressive presence of the machine, the wide wheel kit was wrapped in a set of TKC80 dual sport tyres, you cant go past the chunky rubber on this one!

The front fender was re-purposed from the factory rear fender with some custom brackets made, simple and clean we’re currently working on a wide fender to compliment the universal aluminum front fender we already make. Watch this space!!

Our 7” Flashpoint Classic headlight is tightly nestled between the widened forks on a custom bracket, again focusing on an ultimately clean finish, no fuss. With the gauges re-mounted and a set of Low rise tracker bars and bar end mirrors the front end was complete.

Our final task here was to build the custom exhaust. With the Cat removed, we ran with a 2 into 2 set up, following the frame line with our 316 stainless steel tubing and bends finishing into a set of torpedo reverse cone mufflersTIG welded and brush finished to absolute perfection. The sound out of this set up is lumpy, grumpy and loud. All the clients boxes ticked.

On black motorcycles I’m always conscious of going too far with the black out. Often when you see a custom triumph that’s been completely blacked out it tends to cheapen the finish. Instead, I try to opt for a more balanced approach. You’ll notice just enough bare metal and brushed silver finishes on this custom triumph scrambler. Breaking up the matte black tins. As the bike was assembled we’ve re-finished the tank badges, brush finished the custom exhaust and lighting brackets, carb covers and the rear shocks. Adding in a black chain at the last second for good measure.

Although this project was finished up in a few short weeks, the changes made completely transformed this bike into a brutal looking custom. A dark horse that demands attention. Usually we have a lot more time poured into the bikes that roll out of our shop, but with the wide wheel triumph we still managed to squeeze in some artistry where we could. Giving the finished product that distinct Purpose Built Moto feel.

Thanks so much mate, it certainly has a presence.

Nice bike, mate! I don’t like them new-fangled headlights, preferring in stead the old conical type that sits a bit forward, but hey, that is personal taste. The bike has a nice stance and it seems potentially nice to ride. I’d also ditch the knobblies and sit on street rubber. But it is a very nice overall look and it seems the fabrication work is really smooth. Cool job.
