The Honda XL500 is a tough old single-cylinder machine, built to handle rough trails with its lightweight frame and dependable engine. While it’s solid for its era, the stock suspension and braking system are outdated by modern standards. Purpose Built Moto turned this vintage dual-sport into a high-performing scrambler with a mix of modern upgrades and hand-crafted details.
We gave the engine a big-bore upgrade, pushing it to around 570cc with higher compression for more torque and power. Up front, a YZ front end was swapped in with a 19” wheel, tuned for balance and control, while YSS rear shocks helped to improve the ride. Braking was overhauled with a disc brake conversion, replacing the original drum setup. For lighting, a 4.5” Flashpoint LED Headlight and Hollow Tip Indicators modernized the bike's visibility while keeping the look clean. Custom alloy bodywork and a bespoke seat assembly brought the design together, ready for both trails and street rides.
With these upgrades, the XL500 retains its old-school charm but delivers the kind of performance and handling you'd expect from a serious scrambler.
