Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2024: A Dapper Day for a Cause
Over the weekend, the Gold Coast hosted a chapter in the annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, a global event where riders don their finest dapper apparel to raise funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation. This year, the event saw around 300 riders take to the streets, showcasing a variety of classic and custom motorcycles while dressed to impress. Hosted by MotoSocial Gold Coast and Miami Marketta, the event was a perfect blend of community spirit and a noble cause.
What is the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride?
The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) was founded in 2012 by Mark Hawwa in Sydney, Australia. Inspired by a photo of Don Draper from Mad Men astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit, Hawwa wanted to create a themed ride that would bring together classic and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts, all while supporting a good cause. The ride aims to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men's mental health, in partnership with the Movember Foundation.
Our Experience at DGR Gold Coast 2024
This year's Gold Coast event was a resounding success, with riders gathering in their best suits, ties, and vintage attire. The ride took participants through some of the most scenic routes in the area, creating a striking visual spectacle that turned heads and garnered smiles from onlookers.
At Purpose Built Moto, we were thrilled to be part of this noble cause. We set up a tent and displayed a selection of our finest custom builds. The response from the attendees was overwhelming, with many stopping by to admire our bikes and learn more about the work we do. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and share our passion for motorcycle customization.
Tom, the Founder of Purpose Built Moto, rode his custom XS650 chopper for the ride. Seeing him cruise through the streets on his beautiful machine was a highlight. Even more exciting was seeing a few of our customers riding bikes we had previously built for them and spotting numerous bikes equipped with our parts. It truly showcased the impact and reach of our work within the community here on the Gold Coast.
The event was hosted by MotoSocial Gold Coast and Miami Marketta, two community-focused organisations with a passion for motorcycles and social gatherings. MotoSocial Gold Coast, a social group for motorcycle riders, brought their signature blend of camaraderie and enthusiasm. Miami Marketta, known for its weekly food markets and events in Miami, Gold Coast, provided a vibrant venue that perfectly complemented the event’s stylish and festive atmosphere. Their support and organisation were pivotal in making the event a memorable experience for all participants and attendees.
