Gold Coast 2019 Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride for Men’s Health Awareness
This year’s edition of the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride has come to a close with 300 local motorcycle riders raising over $35,000 which will go towards prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride was founded in Sydney and unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds for men’s health causes. The event was inspired by a photo of the TV show Mad Men’s Don Draper riding a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Event founders decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.
2019 marks the third year a Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was hosted on the Gold Coast, and the second year Purpose Built Moto has participated in and organised the event.
It was a perfect day on the Gold Coast for over 300 riders to put on their fanciest clothes and do some good for causes affecting men’s health.
Riders started the day mustering at local favourite Espresso Moto in Coolangatta, the near beachfront cafe was the most perfect Gold Coast location to serve as a launching point for the ride. Let me tell you, nothing sounds better to a moto-lover than 300 motorbikes pulling out onto the road. As we wound our way up the beachfront, heads turned and ears were probably blocked, but there was a warm sense of community as we were all doing our part to help raise awareness for such an important cause.
Our final destination, Gold Coast favourite Miami Marketta. We packed in as many of the most classic and beautiful machines we could into the place, and from there the beers flowed all afternoon. Entertainment was provided by Huggy Per and Acid Joe pumping out era-appropriate vinyl funk music. The main attraction though, all the top tier Cafe Racers, Scramblers, Bobbers, Choppers (and yes, some scooters) on display. There was something there for every bike lover’s taste.
A special mention for the event must be made to the Mobile Barbers Shop Depot as the pre-event local ride sponsors. Riders were given the chance to head into the depot for a haircut or a beard trim to get all gentlemen looked their sharpest for the event.
