Most days at Purpose Built Moto, you’ll find me, (Now retired from PBM) Tristan or “The Marketing Guy” — behind the camera or buried at the desk, running marketing, planning shoots, or writing articles like the one you’re reading now. My skill set leans hard into storytelling and design, but bikes have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. So when a good mate, Rei, hit me up for help turning his old dirt bike into a super motard, I couldn’t say no.
Rei had just been picked up by a professional rugby team and was moving interstate. He had plans to build a motard out of his 2013 Husqvarna TC449, but with time running out, he needed someone to finish the job. Since I’m lucky enough to have access to Purpose Built Moto’s workshop, tools, and parts, I offered to take it on. I’m no fabrication genius like Tom or Cody out in the shop, but I've been swinging spanners on bikes most of my life, racing and wrenching wherever I could. This was a project I knew I could do justice.

Parts and Upgrades
The parts list was kept tight, focusing on making a strong, reliable motard without wasting time or money. Here's what went into it:
- UFO Plastics Kit supplied by Cassons Australia for that fresh factory look.
- Custom Axiom Rims fitted with Continental Road Attack Motard tyres – the perfect setup for the street.
- Geared down with a 46T rear sprocket for better low-end punch on road.
- Modified and custom-built bracket to fit a 2022 model front fender and aftermarket LED headlight.
- Purpose Built Moto Hollow Tip Indicators on the front.
- Purpose Built Moto Omni Lights on the rear.
- Purpose Built Moto Scrambler Mirror for a tidy bar setup.
- Purpose Built Moto Daytona Cube Dash for a clean, minimal gauge setup.

Purpose Built Moto Parts Installation
Working with the Purpose Built Moto gear made things pretty straightforward:
- The Hollow Tip Indicators bolted directly into the stock headlight surround – 8mm thread, connect the wires and go, easy install.
- The Omni Lights were even easier. A couple of clean 7mm holes in the rear fender and they threaded straight in, no fuss.
- The Scrambler Mirror mounted off the brake lever clamp, keeping the cockpit slim and sharp.
- The Daytona Cube Dash gave the bike a tidy, modern dash solution – perfect for the stripped-back feel we were chasing, this one only took me a few hours to figure out as i had to completely replace the stock Dash. It was stuffed and replacements on ebay were about $800 for a second hand one.
All the Purpose Built Moto parts made the job easy, and they're a great option if you're piecing together your own super motard or street-legal motocross bike.

The Result: Simple, Clean, and Built to Ride
What rolled out of the workshop was a clean, sharp super moto that’s going to put a smile on Rei’s face the second he throws a leg over it. It’s not some show bike. It’s a proper rider’s bike – simple, well-built, and set up to be ridden hard and enjoyed.
For me — Tristan, the marketing guy who’s usually better known for photoshoots than building bikes — it was a reminder that no matter where you usually fit in, passion for motorcycles has a way of pulling you back onto the tools when it counts.
And while we don’t build motards full-time at Purpose Built Moto, we’ve definitely got the parts and the know-how to help you turn your dirt bike into something worth hitting the streets on.
Cheers Rei – enjoy the ride, mate.
