Sunday March 12th 2017, Espresso Bonsai and Urban Finca ran a “Cafe Warming” of sorts for their new venue on the Gold Coasts, Chevron Island. Christian, David and their team put on a morning of tunes, good coffee and great bikes for the first Cafe Racer Show and Shine.

Purpose Built Moto was invited to sponsor and judge the event along with East Coast Iron WorksBrisbanes Moto Dojo and Extraction Artisan Coffee.

Although the field was small it produced some stellar custom bikes, Everything from Harleys, through old Japanese Racers and the obligatory Triumphs, right down to a few of the newer generation Ducati Sport Classics and Scramblers.

Ty, From Night Craft Bobbers Rode this All original Yamaha XS250 down for the morning.

One of my personal favorites from the day, A Kawasaki W650 Cafe Racer, complete with a file finished tank.

East Coast Iron Works was well represented at the cafe racer show with this beautiful, classically styled Kawasaki KZ400 Brat Racer. The stainless steel headers and replica 60’s Triumph Mufflers really set the bike off.

Always a crowd pleaser, Poppy’s all original 1977 Honda CB250T recently got some new shoe’s. Here seen running the Shinko 702 series Dual sport tyre.

Patrick’s Customised Ducati Scrambler, This has had a trip to the Purpose Built Moto Garage for a lighting upgrade and has recently got a re-spray and hand painted pinstripe detailing.

Paolo Di Rossi has had this beautiful Italian for just over a year now. we don’t see him often on rides but its always good when we do. His GT1000 Ducati sport classic is a great piece of bike!

The GS550 Border run Cafe racer was soaking up some of the crowd’s affection on the day, always evoking a lot of questions about all the modifications and custom work.

On the day there were also some prizes to give away generously donated by the sponsors, most impressive of which was the opportunity to win a day’s riding course with Brisbanes Moto Dojo. Although I always judge my own work harshly, Purpose Built Moto’s Suzuki GN250 Scrambler Owned By Nick Ibsen took out the top prize as voted by other judges.

Being Nicks First bike he was understandably stoked with the outcome meaning he took home the Amazing trophy Fabricated by East Coast Iron Works and The chance to complete his open license riding course as part of the prize.

I guess once that’s done I’ll need to build him a new bike!

Thanks, Espresso Bonsai and everyone who showed up for the great day and we will see you on the next one.
